Gradiška through history

According to written documents, Gradiška was first mentioned a little more than 700 years ago and it was called Gradiski Brod. However, life on the territory of today’s city, in its immediate and wider surroundings, dates back to prehistoric times.

In Roman times, at the site of today’s town, there was a settlement called “Municipium Servicium (Serbium)”, which was an important crossroads to the east and south of the Balkans, and also a dock for the river Roman fleet, which speaks volumes about the strategic importance of the settlement at that time.
