Ribnik through history
Ribnik municipality, as well as River Ribnik got their name owing to abundance of fish (Serbian: riba – fish). A small number of written documents on its history speak of life and existence in this area during the Ottoman period.
There are many traces of the Austro-Hungarian period such as remains of narrow-gauge railway lines in the mountains rich in evergreen forests and deciduous woods, fixed bolts in River Ribnik for tying rafts and dispatching logs etc.
Today Ribnik has a character of environmentally clean and economically sustainable community.
