Pale
Pale municipality occupy the area of 492 sq km. The seat of the municipality is the town of Pale, located 16 km east of Sarajevo. The municipal territory is of particularly mountainous character, with altitude 500 – 2000 m. According to the estimates of migration flows and results of the previous census, the population of Pale and the whole municipality in 1985 was 5000 and 16,000 respectively.
The area is predominantly woody (66%). Located at an altitude of 820 m, Pale has long been known as a health resort and a favourite picnic place owing to its natural beauties, clean air, beautiful conifer forests and mountain meadows. With excellent ski tracks on Mount Jahorina and the necessary infrastructure (ski slopes, ski lifts, cable cars and comfortable hotels) Pale are a significant ski and winter sports and tourist centre.
