Monastery Sase

Near the ancient site of Domavia in the municipality of Srebrenica, and 15 km from the Drina Sase, there is a monastery dedicated to the Holy Trinity. It was built in the mid-fourteenth century and, according to tradition, it was built by Emperor Uroš Nemanjić.
Given that the area of Sase and the surroundings have even since the Roman times been known for its deposits of silver, zinc and lead, it is assumed that the monastery was built for the Orthodox workers in the mines. When the Ottomans conquered Bosnia, the mines were abandoned as well as the Sase Monastery.

It was not until the mid 19th century that Sase miners had dug the foundations of the monastery and built a new church dedicated to the Holy Apostle Peter.
