The Old Church in Ljubinje

“Zeleni dub” (English: Green Oak)

“Zeleni dub” (English: Green Oak) stands out as a distinct natural rarity – almost evergreen oak in village Bančić, nine kilometres southwest of Ljubinje. The oak keeps its leaves green over the whole winter, but it cannot reproduce.

The oak tree, about 10 meters high and hundreds of years old, is a subject of interest of publicists, journalists and tourists.

There is a folk legend of the blessing of Saint Sava, who once travelled in this area and took a rest in the shade of an oak, which he blessed.
